Install AML
correctly.

Use the official package for your system. AML installs its own PHP and Composer.

Choose your system

This documentation targets AML 1.7.0-beta.43. Always download from phpaml.com or the official GitHub release.

Install for your platform

Windows

Open the .exe, then a new terminal. Installation uses your profile and normally needs no administrator rights.

macOS

Open the .pkg. Because the beta package is not yet signed by Apple, macOS may request approval under Privacy & Security.

Debian / Ubuntu

phpaml — zsh
sudo dpkg -i phpaml-1.7.0-beta.43-linux-x64.deb

WHY A COMPLETE INSTALLER?

The same environment for everyone.

A PHP application normally depends on separately installed tools: PHP executes code, Composer manages libraries, and a command runs project tasks. Two developers may therefore have incompatible versions. AML bundles a controlled PHP 8.4, Composer, and the CLI to reduce those differences.

Without AML

Install PHP, configure PATH, install Composer, verify versions, then prepare every project.

With AML

Install one package, open a new terminal, and verify everything with aml doctor.

What the installer changes

It places AML and its private tools on the machine, then exposes the aml command through PATH. It does not create an application yet.

First check

phpaml — zsh
aml version

The terminal should display 1.7.0-beta.43. If aml is not found, close and reopen the terminal to reload PATH.

CHECK YOUR UNDERSTANDING

Why should you open a new terminal after installation?

Show the answer

Because an already open terminal may keep the old PATH value and not know the aml command yet.

SUMMARY

What to remember

  • AML includes PHP and Composer.
  • The package must match the operating system and architecture.
  • aml version confirms that the terminal finds the command.
  • A successful installation does not create a project yet.
